Attorneys - Law Offices of Christopher M. Welch
Position | Areas of Practice | Bar Admissions | Education | Representative Cases
Chris Welch began practicing law in downtown Boston in 1981. He quickly realized that he wanted his practice to have a more personal connection with his own community and with his clients' lives. He began practicing in Newburyport in November, 1983, sharing an office with Doug Bolick. The two formed Bolick & Welch on January 1, 1985 and continued the practice for fifteen years until Doug left to reduce the scope of his practice in 2000. The two remain of counsel to each others' firms.
While Chris' practice was originally a general civil practice, it gradually became more and more concentrated in matters related to real estate. His practice now almost exclusively involves:
- residential conveyancing
- commercial real estate transactions
- land use and zoning matters
- landlord tenant issues
His clients include local lenders, mortgage companies and individuals buying, selling, refinancing, leasing and developing real estate.
His commitment is to achieving the goals of the client and, although results can never be promised, Chris is never satisfied unless they are achieved.
Chris is also committed to involvement in the greater community. He served four terms on the Newburyport City Council from 1986-1994 and has been active in many other local political campaigns and has served on various committees of local government.
Chris was active in the mid 1980's with the citizens group attempting to save the former firehouse from commercial development.
He acted as counsel for the group in the case which was eventually decided by the Supreme Judicial Court and served for more than ten years on the Board of the Firehouse Center for the Performing Arts.
